In Memory

My childhood is full of many, many great memories. I really have been so lucky to have grown up with the friends and family I did. One of those friends who became like family was Shirley Page. She is my best friend Julia's grandma.

She is a master sewer and makes the most beautiful quilts. Whenever I would go over to Julia's house, she would have a bowl of M&M's on her dresser for our taking. She could always make us laugh and I have enjoyed having her around 6 months out of the year for the past 19 years. She helped us learn how to piece a quilt last summer (here) and helped us through our rough spots (of which there were many).

In the past year, Shirley has been fighting cancer and doing it well. Today, however, she passed away from a lung infection. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lund family. We love you guys.

Shirley, you will be missed but we know you are now in an amazingly beautiful place!

  1. i am actually looking at your blog because i needed to get your address from my address book, so i saw this posting. i am trying to get back to doing some of the things i used to do. i always enjoyed looking at your blog because i love all the happiness you and elliott have together. i have been very sad about the loss of my mom. this post of yours on the day she died and very close to the time she died is very sweet. she loved you so much and loved watching you grow up! she loved sewing with you and julia. it was very meaningful to her that she she was able to pass on her love of sewing to you. she had such a nice time with us before jenny's baby was born. i think the Lord blessed her to have a really fun time sewing with you guys and jenny before she returned to vermont and started to get sick. thank you for loving shirley too! love, gretchen
