When I was younger one of my favorite things to do was stay up and read into the early morning. I also loved to spend all of Sunday reading as my mom cooked. I loved it. I was mostly reading or rereading Harry Potter or the Limeny Snicket series but I also enjoyed Roald Dahl and the books I had to read for my high school english classes.
Well, as school, work, and roommates have filled most of my hours for the past few years, I have not done this in a long long time. Last night, without any intent to do so, I read an entire book (save 30 pages from the day before). I just could not put it down. I felt like I was reading Harry Potter again (although still not quite as good). The book was The Hunger Games which I had been hearing about for months now. Elliott finally bought it and I snatched it up immediately.
I'm writing this post to 1. Give my approval of the book (it just might keep you up until 3:30 in the morning) and 2. Mostly just to remind myself in the future how much I like reading. I always wonder what I'll think of my posts from my 20's when I come back to them years down the road.
Today I might just go out and buy the second book in the series?
Oh, and can I please tell you how awesome the Erasure concert was? Not to say I'm in love with their music, they have some good song but mostly because of the performance. I had no previous picture of what the band was like (i.e. number of band members, age, etc) so when I first saw them I just started laughing. Out walks a man in a sparkly red jacket, a spartan helmet, and tight black pants and was joined by two female back up singers. I couldn't tell at first, but once that helmet and jacket came off it was obvious, the lead singer was flamboyantly gay. Oh, he was so entertaining with his dancing and his faces, and his english accent. I very much enjoyed myself. Especially when he had one of his band members cut of his corset-like vest so he could replace it with a Michael Jackson T. Thanks dad for the entertaining night!
This might give you a better idea:

Friday Night
We have been total summer concert losers this year. We made it to our first one last night to see Bright Eyes play. Great music. Great night.
Favorite overheard conversation from the night? We drifted back from the front of the crowd after an hour or so to take a break from the smoke cloud hovering above us. We ended up standing next to a guy who had fallen asleep in a semi-awkward position on his blanket. Two passing guys stopped to take a look.
"No way that guys asleep right now."
He then bent down to make sure he really was. This is when sleeping boy woke up.
"Oh hey dude, props for being totally comfortable."
"Uh, thanks?"
"My name is Chris"
"I'm Kip."
"Kip? No way. My parents were going to name me Kip, but then they wussed out at the last minute and named me Chris like a bunch of assholes."
Tonight, we played Fruit Ninja on the Kinect on my brother's XBOX (awesome). We ate leftovers from Red Iguana. We sewed and printed shirts. We are staying in and being creatively productive.
Remember when I wrote about This American Life? If you totally ignored that post, which you probably did, check it out here again: This American Life. You won't regret it.
Now, Elliott is out on a treat run. We're probably going to watch a movie.

M.O.S
Last week we went to Redfest at the U of U (free for students). The line-up: Fun, Mates of State, Ben Lee. We only wanted to see Mates of State but decided to catch Fun anyways (same lead singer as The Format). They were....decent. But Mates of State were amazing. We tried to catch their show a few months ago but only caught the last half hour so we were excited when we heard they were coming to play at school (and that we didn't have to pay to get in).
Even though there was your fair share of annoying drunk 20 year olds at the concert, it wasn't overcrowded and we were able to sit on a grassy hill up until Mates of State played. Besides the drunk freshman blonde who was standing next to us asking if this was Ace of Base playing and throwing herself over everyguy in a 5 foot radius, we were able to just stand and enjoy the music. Oh yeah, there was also a mosh pit going on in front of us...at Mates of State...a mosh pit? Really? Wrong concert guys. What is it with guys anyways wanting to run around and smash into each other? I don't get it.
-Fall-
Afterwards we went and got rootbeer floats. We love weekends. This weekend:
Utah football game
Bike ride?
Sleeping in
Canyon drive?

Lately
This summer has been a lot of fun. It's so nice for both of us to have the summer off of school. For the past couple of months we get home from work and can just hang out with each other instead of homework. The summer concert series in Salt Lake has been very popular. We went to the Modest Mouse concert. It was hot and sunny and we shared the park with 40,000 other people. After smashing bodies with strangers and getting sneezed on twice at the same time, we decided to leave a little early.

I had a day off a few weeks ago and went on a great hike with my friend Anna. We hiked to Lake Blanche which is up Big Cottonwood Canyon. I had never been and was surprised to see such clear water surrounded by green pine trees and red rock.

Two weeks ago Elliott surprised me and took me up to Park City for the Ben Folds concert. He played with the Utah Symphony. That guy can really play.

Lately, we have been working on building a screen printing press. Elliott designed a press that includes a drying rack, a light box, and the press. He designed everything himself and I have been helping him put it together. In a week or so we should be able to make our own shirts!

And yesterday we wandered up to Doughnut Falls
